The Day – Local roundup: Sea Unicorns players help East win at FCBL All-Star Game


New Britain – Kaelen Culpepper (Kansas State) had two hits, including an RBI single in the ninth inning, and Tre Cobb (Hartford) had an RBI single in the fifth in Team L’s 10-2 win. ‘East on West at Futures Collegiate. Baseball League All-Star Game Tuesday.

Culpepper and Cobb were two of seven players representing the Norwich Sea Unicorns, including Mitchell College star Hunter Yaworski, who started the game on designated hitter, and Kenny Heon.

Babe Ruth State (15)

• Winning pitcher Derrel Mitchel had a brace, home run and four RBIs as New London / Montville edged out Milford, 8-7. Chris Tanucci has selected for New London, which will face Naugatuck in the Losers’ Bracket final on Thursday at Law High School in Milford (5:30 p.m.). The winner will face Waterford in Friday’s final at the same venue.


• Brendan Cumming (Princeton) was 4 for 4, including three doubles, with two runs and two runs batted in as the Mystic Schooners beat the Newport Gulls 11-7 in a six innings game. Jimmy Sullivan (Virginia) had two hits, including two homers, and scored twice for Mystic (13-12) and Jared Burrows (Hartford) of Waterford got the save. • Winning pitcher Brenton Trask allowed two runs in 5.2 innings, struck out four strikes and also scored a single and scored as Norwich beat Tri-Town 4-2 on Tuesday night, his fourth win in five matches. Anthony Sanchez had a single, run and run batted in and Dan Eggler pitched the final 1.3 inning to earn the Norwich save. Austin Drabinski also made a single. Mason Barber doubled up and scored for Tri-Town.

District 10 Baseball (10-12)

• Chase Malbaurn allowed two hits in four innings with nine strikeouts and hit two homers with five runs batted in to lead Montville to New London on Tuesday night 8-3. Cooper Browne and Jeremy Parkos each scored multiple hits for Montville. Zeke Johnson had an RBI for New London and Juan Santiago-Droz and Gavin MacGaha both had multiple hits.
