Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, January 14: The weekend curfew decreed by the government a week ago will be in effect from the night of Friday January 14 until the morning of January 17.

Deputy Commissioner Dr KV Rajendra clarified that only weddings (with 100 people inside and 200 outside), pre-determined religious programs in the fulfillment of religious vows like Yakshagana alone will be allowed during this period . No other private or public programs can be held in the district, he said.

Schools and colleges will remain closed. Buses will move based on passenger response. People will be allowed to travel to remote locations by bus, train and plane. Shops selling food, milk and medicine will be open.

As a precautionary measure, all temples, churches and mosques will be closed to worshipers during the weekend curfew period. Priests and a limited number of staff can take part in routine puja rituals, he said. He added that some easing was allowed during last weekend’s curfew but this week no public or private programs can be held due to the rising positivity rate in the district and neighboring Kasargod. .
