Black Sage Butchers seeks new storefront on Main Street Oliver – Keremeos Review
Black Sage Butchers is seeking to relocate to a new location on Main Street and the proposed location will be subject to a public hearing.
The July 12 hearing will be open to residents to share their views on the proposal.
Black Sage Butchers is currently located on Station Street, but is considering moving to a new storefront at 6234 Main Street.
The public hearing is part of the approval process, as the site’s zoning currently does not allow food or beverage processors, which would also include wineries or distilleries.
Black Sage Butchers took possession of the property on June 16 according to the letter they sent with their zoning change request.
In their letter, they explained that they had noted that the larger location would require them to hire more staff in an effort to hire local staff.
“Although BSB primarily serves the people of the southern Okanagan, Black Sage Butcher’s reputation has spread beyond this region,” the letter read. “Attracting customers to a new location on Main Street will increase local and tourist traffic in downtown Oliver, which could benefit neighboring businesses. “
City staff believe any negative impact on Main Street will be minimal and recommend that the proposal be approved by council.
“The proposal will help fill another empty retail space along Main Street, which will increase local and tourist traffic in the downtown area. The detriment, however, is the departure from their current location on Station Street. The relocation will provide an expansion opportunity for business owners, ”the staff report read.
After the public hearing, the proposal would be returned to the board for further consideration.
